Karen King The Gospel of Mary Magdalene

Meditation“According to the master story, the full doctrines of  Christianity was fixed by Jesus and passed on in the doctrines of the Church. The Gospel of Mary instead suggests that the story of the gospel is unfinished. Christians doctrine and practice are not fixed dogmas that one can only accept or reject; rather Christians are required to step into the story and work together  to shape the meaning of the gospels in their own time. Because human passions and love of the world incline people to error, discerning the truth requires effort, and it insists that communities of faith take responsible on how they appropriate tradition in a world too often ruled by powers of injustice and domination.“

Closing PrayerSt. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi Prayer

Make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy, And where there is sadness, joy, joy, joy. God grant that I may not so much see; To be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we pardoned. And it is in dying that we are born, to Eternal Life. Amen, Amen, Amen

Announcements:We are witnessing the 6th extinction of life on earth -the only one created by humans. We gather to create community and to give thanks to God for all of creation as we build a new ‘ecologic civilization.’  .  Jesus taught a way to live in the truth and taught us that, “The truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) Every Sunday at 5 pm we acknowledge that we need one another more than ever before as we deepen our relationship with God. Following worship we invite everyone to the Mary Magdalene Cafe for a pot luck dinner at 6 pm, with vegetarian soup or main dish and drinks provided. Weather permitting we share star gazing and dancing. We follow in the early traditions of house churches led by women in the first few hundred years of early Christianity and also to study the newly found gnostic gospels. Children and dogs are especially welcome at worship. (Dogs are not allowed at Torrey Pines State Park)

Help us find an acre or more of land in San Diego County to build our church and/or an organization to collaborate so we can serve children, Mother Earth and the least of these, as elder community makers, in the spirit of the Taize community after WWII, who cared for orphans after the war and who have beome leaders in innovative artistic soulful worship and spirit filled ecumenical community.
